Honoring nature,

About MOROTO

About MOROTO

For more than a century, MOROTO has cultivated forests, nurturing the beauty and culture that grow from them.
What we carry forward is a spirit of living alongside nature, honoring its beauty and taking joy in it.

MOROTO’s Mission

MOROTO’s Mission

MOROTO’s mission is to restore Japan’s distinctive aesthetic sensibility to everyday life and carry it forward into the next century.

We seek to bring nature’s gifts and this aesthetic sensibility into contemporary life in ways that keep them relevant and alive.

We find beauty in everyday life and bring a touch of playfulness to stillness, drawing on a uniquely Japanese sensibility that combines quiet dignity with freedom of expression.

MOROTO’s Concept

From nature to material…
From material to object…
From object to everyday life…

We understand the refinement of tradition, master its forms, and then thoughtfully move beyond them.

Because what we seek to preserve is not the form itself, but what lies at its heart.
We want to bring Japan’s distinct sense of beauty back into everyday life and carry it forward for another hundred years.
A quiet pride to pass on to future generations.

MOROTO’s Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship is about much more than producing things at MOROTO.

Wood, earth, water, glass.
Fine materials are born of a natural environment we have long cherished and protected. We come to know their qualities deeply, draw out their finest attributes, and let their true beauty speak through what we create.
In the hands of those who use them they become part of everyday life — quietly restoring a sense of beauty.

MOROTO’s Aesthetics and
Cultural Experiences

The MOROTO Garden

As part of its commitment to keeping Japanese culture alive, MOROTO also works to preserve cultural properties.
The MOROTO Garden was acquired by Seiroku Moroto and shaped over two generations with great care and ingenuity by Seiroku and his son Seita. Six of its buildings have been designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
The Moroto Foundation carries forward the Moroto family’s legacy of preserving and renewing culture, working to ensure these cultural properties are preserved in good condition for future generations.
