MOROTO traces its origins to Seiroku Moroto, who looked beyond short-term profit and began planting trees in the mountains as part of his “100-Year National Plan.” Ever since, we have remained closely engaged with nature, creating new value for each era while making sustainable forestry the foundation of our endeavors.

What we do each day may seem modest when viewed against the vast sweep of history. Yet I believe that our deep appreciation for the tea ceremony and other Japanese arts, our discerning eye for beauty, and our longstanding commitment to creating things of genuine quality allow us to offer enduring value and cultural experiences uniquely our own.

Inspired by our founder, who planted trees well over a century ago for the benefit of Japan and also brought water to the community, MOROTO looks ahead to the next century, carrying forward the aspirations of those who came before us. We seek to restore to everyday life the distinctive aesthetic sensibility of Japan and a renewed appreciation for its cultural heritage.

We preserve what has been passed down while giving it new relevance for our time. That is the path we have chosen for the century to come.

Our aim is to restore Japan’s distinctive aesthetic sensibility and spirit of hospitality to contemporary life so that they can enrich lives for generations to come. Guided by our commitment to keeping culture alive and relevant, MOROTO will continue to share with the world objects and experiences that reflect the rich traditions and beauty of Japanese culture.
